Origin

Gayatri Jayanti is the day of appearance of Goddess Gayatri, who is the personification of divine knowledge. It is a festival celebrated by Hindus all around the world. This year Gayatri Jayanti falls on 28th May, which is the day of Jyestha Shukla Paksha Ekadashi.

Significance of Gayatri Jayanti

1. Also known as Veda Mata, her four heads represent the Vedas, and her fifth symbolizes the almighty.

2. Gayatri Mata has been widely revered by Hindus since the Vedic times, and the Gayatri Mantra is one of the main mantras of Hinduism.

3. According to legend, the sage Vishvamitra had revealed the Gayatri Mantra to the world on the auspicious day of Gayatri Jayanti.

4. She had arrived on earth with divine knowledge at a time when society was ignorant and disorderly. Vedic society was then enlightened by the supreme knowledge of the Vedas.
